Summary 2015-2025
An excellent longevity conference took place on July 16 in Knesset on the subject of “Research, Development and Education for Healthy Longevity” co-organized by our associations – Vetek and Disabled, Not Half a Person. The conference was organized by the Knesset Lobby for the Geriatric and Nursing Care Population, chaired by MK Etty Atia. Many thanks to her! – hosting such a conference in this time in Israel is not to be taken for granted. The conference was co-initiated and co-organized by Vetek Association and Disabled, Not Half a Person association. Thanks to our dear partners and fellow leaders and board members in both Vetek Association and Disabled, Not Half a Person association – Alex Fridman and Hanan Tal.
Alongside prominent Israeli researchers, physicians, and public health activists in the healthy longevity field (such as Alexander Rabinovitz and Myriam), several Members of Knesset participated, across the political spectrum. These included chairman of the Knesset Health Committee MK Yonatan Mashriqi (Shas), Knesset Deputy Chairman MK Nissim Vaturi, former Minister of Social Welfare MK Meir Cohen (Yesh Atid), MK Eli Dellal and MK Osher Shekalim (Likud), MK Tatiana Mazarsky (Yesh Atid). If there is one topic that unites all political parties, it is this topic of healthy longevity promotion, as the subject is common for all of us.
The conference made it clear that healthy longevity extension is THE real solution for the aging challenge, including its health and humanitarian problems. And research, development and education for healthy longevity and prevention of aging related diseases is THE necessary condition for the accomplishment of this task.
As quite a few participants mentioned in the conference, we are advancing this topic now, against quite a few current odds, promoting this long-term vision.
The conference is expected to create a good boost for the longevity policy in Israel and internationally, including new support programs. We will continue advancing this mission. Thanks to all the involved!
